“Of all the wedding vendors, Esther was the best choice I made.” (Jess). “Have you heard of Adele?” (Damian). These two quotes perfectly capture the kind of relationship I have with Damian and Jess! I had the privilege of being the photographer for their STUNNING Vancouver Island wedding.
Now, I’m blessed to call them my good friends and hang out at their house for games and good chats (or questions about my musical knowledge).
I actually first met Damian and Jess in Mexico while shooting a different wedding. They were wedding guests and agreed to do a cute mini session on the beach with me.
Fast forward a year and I was doing an EPIC engagement session with them at Boundary Bay, and then the grand finale of wedding photos on Vancouver Island. Every single time I’ve had them in front of my lens I consider myself very lucky. I mean, LOOK AT THEM.
A Romantic Denman Island Engagement
Damian and Jess got engaged during a weekend trip to Denman Island. After breakfast they set out to explore, with their first stop at Morning Beach where there was no one else in sight.
Jess saw the washed-out stairs and was afraid to go down, but Damian convinced her and they found a quiet spot along the beach to sit. They decided to do a 5-minute meditation to listen to the waves, and after this was finished Damian asked Jess to close her eyes and picture past, present, and future scenarios from their relationship.
Damian began to tell Jess why he thought they were ready to get married. Jess asked him if she could open her eyes, and there was Damian kneeling with the ring!!!
A Vancouver Island Wedding That Was An Absolute Blast
I left Damian and Jess’ wedding ON A HIGH. It was the type of wedding where I felt like part of the gang right off the bat. The type of wedding where I wanted to talk to literally everyone there because it was the best crew out there! I stayed way past coverage because it was too much fun to peace out early. When I was leaving, I hugged everyone because they all felt like family after only one day!!
Let me finish by saying that if you’re stuck as to what your first dance song should be, take a page out of Damian and Jess’ book and do “The Time of My Life”. Oh and don’t forget to learn the Dirty Dancing routine that goes with it because it is a REAL CROWD PLEASER.
It also makes for some incredible photos as you can see below, which just illustrates what an incredibly FUN couple Damian and Jess are.
It was an absolute blast shooting their love story and I am overjoyed to be able to call them good friends now. Love you guys!!
